TEVETA SIGNS CONTRACTS WITH GRANT WINNERS

TEVET providers whose proposals were successful in the first phase of the SAVE project competitive grant scheme have been urged to utilize their funds for the intended purpose of gaining the confidence of development partners.

Secretary for Labour Wezi Kayira made the remarks during a signing ceremony of contracts for the grant winners. 15 TEVET Providers won grants under the World Bank grant-funded Skills for a Vibrant Economy (SAVE) project valued at $ 15 million. The first tranche of 15 winners has been awarded grants ranging from $340, 000 to $460, 000

"The project is a great investment to the sector and as TEVET providers you are expected to utilise the funds for their intended purposes so that they are a point of future reference, " he said.

The Executive Director for TEVETA, Elwin Chiwembu Sichiola said: "We will continue supporting the colleges to make sure that the proposed infrastructure development projects are a success."

Speaking on behalf of the winning TEVET providers, the Principal for Kasungu Community Skills Development Centre Trouble Mangwazu described the project as a boost to their drive for better infrastructure and capacity building. The successful TEVET Providers are in three categories.
a) Community Skills Development Centres as follows: Mbulunji in Rumphi, Sonda in Mzuzu, Ntchisi and Mthiramsembe in Ntchisi.
b) Community Technical Colleges: Kapondo in Mchinji, Ezondweni in Mzimba, Mangochi, Kasama in Chitipa and MACOHA in Lilongwe.
c) National Private Technical Colleges: Phwezi in Rumphi, Solar Energy and Ecology Institute in Nkhatabay, Miracle Technical Institute in Karonga, SoS Vocational in Lilongwe and Andiamo in Balaka.

The competitive grant scheme will benefit a total of 30 TEVET providers by the end of the project term.
