TEVETA Orients Newly Appointed Board Members to Strengthen Skills Development Agenda

The Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training TEVETA Authority has conducted an orientation session for its newly appointed Board Members, reaffirming the Authority’s strategic role in advancing national development through skills development.

Gracing the orientation, the Honourable Minister of Labour, Skills and Innovation, Honourable. Joel Chigona, emphasised Government’s expectation that Malawians, particularly the youth, should be empowered to become self-reliant. He underscored that TEVET remains a critical pathway for equipping young people with practical skills required for employment, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods, in line with the aspirations of Malawi 2063.

The Minister further called on the Board to provide oversight that will strengthen the TEVET system and position skills development as a key driver of socio-economic transformation and inclusive growth.

In his remarks, TEVETA Executive Director, Mr. Elwin Chiwembu Sichiola, highlighted TEVETA’s mandate in coordinating, regulating, and promoting quality TEVET delivery across the country. He assured the Board of Management’s full commitment to working under the Board’s guidance to effectively implement policies and programmes that respond to national labour market needs and support youth empowerment.

Speaking on behalf of the Board, Board Chairperson Mr. Gilbert Chilinde reaffirmed the Board’s determination to provide effective oversight and strategic direction towards improved skills development. He expressed the Board’s commitment to promoting a responsive and inclusive TEVET system that contributes meaningfully to national development.

As part of the programme, Board Members toured the TEVETA Secretariat Offices, where Management briefed them on the Authority’s structure, operations, and ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening skills development in Malawi.
