MALAWI STEPS UP EFFORTS TO ESTABLISH PRODUCTIVITY POLICY
Government has reiterated calls for establishment of a national productivity policy in Malawi to enhance service delivery, economic output and competitiveness of companies and enterprises in both the private and public sectors in the country.
The formulation of the policy is a recommendation from the 2023 National TEVET Conference in 2023 and the International Labour Organisation committed to support the policy formulation process with resources.
The Director of Planning in the Ministry of Labour, Ms Patricia Zimpita, made the call during a capacity building workshop for various Malawian stakeholders championing the formulation of the national productivity policy held from 1st to 2nd April 2025 in Lilongwe under the theme “Building a National Productivity Framework – Foundations and Strategic Direction.
TEVETA’s Director of Training Programmes, Mr. Modesto Gomani, indicated that efforts to have the productivity policy are on track with a concept awaiting approval.
President of Pan African Productivity Association (PAPA), Mr Cyprian Mayamba, whose association is facilitating the process, expressed excitement that Malawi has made strides towards establishing a national productivity policy.
The workshop covered topics such as Productivity Concepts and Measurement, Malawi’s Labour Productivity Statistics, Productivity Ecosystem for Decent Work, Malawi’s Efforts Towards Productivity Management and Policy and Best Practice Analysis on National Productivity Promotion.
The event drew participants from Ministries of Labour and Trade, Malawi Bureau of Standards, National Planning Commission, National Commission for Science and Technology, Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the TEVET Authority.
