145 Youths Benefit from TEVETA-CADECOM Partnership
The TEVET Authority and the Catholic Development Commission in Malawi (CADECOM) jointly trained 145 young Malawians in various skills.
The two organisations facilitated the six-month trainings in partnership with Balaka and Zomba district councils.
The informal sector training took place at Andiamo Technical College in Balaka and Namitembo Technical College in Zomba through CADECOM’s Hope for Youths project.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, TEVETA Regional Service Centre Manager for the South, Conceptor Bamusi, commended all the partners in the project for making it possible for the youth to access vital skills .
“The response from the trainees was positive and the most exciting part is that females participated very well. Out of the 59 trainees that graduated at Namitembo Technical College, 30 were females, 29 were males and among them six have physical disabilities. While at Andiamo Technical College, out of the 84 graduates, 37 were female, 47 females and 10 had physical disabilities,” she said.
The participants were trained in Bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, electrical installation and electronics, and fabrication and welding.
They recieved start-up tools and others got employment from different companies they were attached to.
