Government of Malawi through TEVETA is implementing a TEVET Improvement Project (TIP) aimed at revamping formal and informal TEVET provision as well as quality assurance. The US$ 5 million project funded by World Bank commenced on 1 July 2015 and will run for four years.
The K3.4 billion TEVET Improvement Project aims at the following:
- Increasing access to TEVET through 12 Community Skills Development Centres across the country. 4,100 youths will be trained under this component. The centres are Kasama in Chitipa; Mburunji in Rumphi; Sonda in Mzuzu, Manyamula in Mzimba, Nkhotakota Business Development Centre in Nkhotakota; Ngozi in Salima; Mtakataka in Dedza, Kawamba in Kasungu, Malindi in Mangochi; Sakata in Zomba; Misanjo in Mulanje and Mphungu in Chikwawa
- Developing curriculum for short skills upgrading programmess in selected training institutions offering skills training in rural areas. 15 curriculum will be developed and implemented.
- Providing equipment and upgrading staff capacity in selected institutions offering Automobile Technician Level Programmes. 60 technicians will be training under this initiative
- Training of Master Crafts persons. 250 Master crafts persons will be given training directly and each one will in turn train 4 others taking the total to1000
- Conduct four tracer studies
