STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT UNIT

The Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) Authority is a regulatory body that was established in 1999 by an Act of Parliament with the mandate to regulate, promote and facilitate sustainable provision of quality technical, entrepreneurial and vocational education and training in Malawi.

In order to perform the above, TEVETA is guided by the Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) Act of 1999 and revised TEVET Policy of 2013 which promote Competence Based Education and Training (CBET) approach in provision of TEVET in Malawi. The approach is standard based, modular and has a system of continuous and summative assessment. The competence standards are developed by the industry. TEVET provider institutions are expected to deliver training according to the expected level of performance set by the industry.

Definition

A Standardis a specification by industry of how a task should be performed by a competent worker.Curriculumis what is offered for a course of study under the auspices of the provider. TEVET curriculum, is astructured Standards based Instruction, criteria, element, aspect, that aids in peoples learning.

Purpose

Standards Development, guides the development and review of TEVET curriculum. It facilitates and coordinates the development and review of all TEVET curricula by ensuring that the produced curricula meet requirements, specifications and expectations of the labour market.
