Lilongwe Technical College Strengthens Africa’s Immunisation Supply Chain Systems Through Hands-On Training
From 9th to 20th February 2026, Lilongwe Technical College (LTC) conducted an intensive, hands-on international training on the Operation and Maintenance of Vaccine Cold Chain Equipment (CCE) and Health Facility Solar Electrification (HFSE) Equipment.
From 9th to 20th February 2026, Lilongwe Technical College (LTC) conducted an intensive, hands-on international training on the Operation and Maintenance of Vaccine Cold Chain Equipment (CCE) and Health Facility Solar Electrification (HFSE) Equipment.
The programme brought together health professionals from Botswana, following previous international cohorts from Eritrea, Lesotho, and Mozambique.
With 80% of the training dedicated to practical application in advanced refrigeration and solar laboratories, participants enhanced their competencies in cold chain maintenance, solar systems, troubleshooting, and vaccine logistics.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Guest of Honour, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Skills and Innovation, Nwazi Mnthambala, stated that the training has sparked a passion for continuous learning and innovation in Malawi and the region, inspiring both personal and professional growth as well as collaborative relationships.
She further commended UNICEF for its valuable support and noted that developing this technical expertise is a direct contribution to Malawi 2063, strengthening human capital and positioning Malawi as a hub of innovation.
LTC Principal Mr. Suzgika Mvalo emphasised the public health importance of the initiative.
“Through this training, we are assisting ministries of health locally and internationally to safeguard lives,” he said.
Clement Modise from Botswana’s Ministry of Health, representing the trainees, said the training addressed gaps affecting vaccine management efficiency and strengthened their professional competence.
Aligned with the mandate of the TEVET Authority to promote quality, industry-responsive skills development, LTC continues to emerge as a Centre of Excellence, positioning Malawi as a leader in technical innovation and resilient health supply systems across Africa
